Full Description

2 circular features. (1)
Halfway down spur known as Fox Hill, to S of track from Hill Farm to W Leake, a plateau bounded to N by track in gulley and to SW by sharp fall in ground, c 8ft: ring mound and oval mound of unknown date or purpose. (2)
The ring mound (SK 53612684) has a concave centre and is surrounded by a ditch. 2 small mounds c 10m NW and 10m SE, in alignment with the centre of the ring mound, may be associated. The oval mound (SK 53562679) has a rounded top and is surrounded by a ditch. Both ditches are sharply defined and the mounds appear to be modern. (3)
Now under spring crop: not perambulated, but viewed from the high field boundary to the E. There are no surface indications of any of the mounds. The farmer/owner was not available. (4)
An area of rough grass and bushes. A member of the LHG maintains that there is a barrow here. I could find only a rectangular area adjoining the track and this was the site of a building to service a searchlight at this spot during the early years of WW2. (5)
See L8973 for linear feature.
