A Oswald (1938?) examined a disused clay pit by Hathern station and discovered ... remains of 2 urns showing Saxon and Anglian features and the fragments of an iron knife found in a group together. Fragments of human bone were also noticed over a stretch of c 30yds. Detailed description of pottery, comments by Myers. (1)
Inquiries at the office of "Hathernware Pottery" revealed that the clay pit is still disused and nothing else has been found - no features in face. (2)
Small scale excavation to clean face of brick pit in advance of filling by waste disposal carried out 1985 - no features found. (3)
