Full Description

At N end of village a timber framed house with jettied first floor gable end to street having window typical of that used by framework knitters, and reputed to be a very early example. Date on house 1663. Certainly a reasonable date as I know there was a framework knitter in Long Eaton in 1677. (1)
The oldest house in the East Midlands which has elongated 'stockingers windows' and which can be dated accurately. The date 1663 [is] carved on the projecting beam above the ground-floor windows. (2)
Timber framed with brick nogging on a rubble plinth. Jettied over the street and dated 1661 on the bressumer. The long 1st floor windows of sliding casements are probably a later insertion to light a framework knitting shop. (3)
Date appears to be 1661 on photograph. (4)
Tree ring estimate of date range … 1651/2. (6)
9 timber samples (cores) were taken from 1 Soar Lane in 1992. The main group were dated to 1651/2 and a later group were given a tentative date of 1661/2. (7)
