Full Description

A C17 building, perhaps C16 in origin, altered and enlarged by Sir Thomas Parkyns in the early C18. The 3 storey stucco garden front is early C19 in character, with 3-light mullion windows, those on the upper floor having transoms. A 5 storey tower is linked to the rear elevation of the main building by one of 2 projecting wings. (1) (2)
Unlikely to have been started until after 1717, when Sir Thomas was in financial straits. Going up in 1723 and described as unfinished in 1725. Enlargements, including the E entrance, begun by the second Lord Rancliffe in the early C19 were still not complete in the 1880's. (3)
Named 'Hall'. (4)
See M8901 for the deer park.
