Full Description

A "tumulus" shown and named in a view of "Margidunum" (actually Vernemetum). Not mentioned in text. (1)
The above grid ref can only be regarded as approx, the actual site being somewhere witihin the SE angle formed by Broughton Lane and Occupation Lane. This is designated "Mill Hill" on the OS 1st edn 1865, so the possibility exists that Stukeley has misidentified an early mill mound. Perambulation of the aea showed most of the land to be permanent pasture with heavy rig and furrow, but no trace of an early mill was to be seen. (2)
