Full Description

Remains of tramway, early C19. The tramway was a feeder to the Nottm Canal and ran from near Shaws Plantation to the canal. All that can be seen of it now is a path on its site between Balloon Woods and the canal and quite a few stone sleeper blocks, which are built into an embankment between the railway and the canal. Blocks have holes for wooden spike which secured rail. Area being built on (24/07/1967). (1)
A third tramway from Catstone Hill to the Nottingham Canal near Balloon Woods was traceable at its S end and several stone blocks about 15in square which acted as sleepers were still almost in situ. However, all this has been destroyed by the Balloon Woods development. (6)
Grid ref for NW end.
