Full Description
Rebuilt in 1842-4 by Scott & Moffatt. The chancel was left standing, much lower than the new church though somewhat enlarged by C. H. Thornton in 1876. Straight headed Perp windows. (1)
The church is dedicated to St. John Baptist, and consists of a nave and side aisle with a tower. In the chancel are three stalls and the holy-water stock. (2)
Originally 3 bells in 1847 and in c.1870 6 new bells were installed by J Taylor and Co which included works to ‘alterations to frames’. The bells were rehung with new fittings in 1968 and the 6th bell was recast. In 1993 the tower contained a rig of 8 bells with steel headstocks and bearing hung in a low sided long headed timber frame both with and without centre posts. The bell frame consists of 11 connecting trusses with head and sill separated by braces morticed into sill and head. The trusses are various with a mixture of king and queen posts. (3)
