Hosiery Works, Kirk Lane. Built of brick with cast iron windows and a slate roof, 2 storeys. Now has a shop beneath, top floor preserved as offices. Associated house at N end. (1) (2)

[A] Factory in Kirk Lane is possibly the first stage in the transition … from hand to steam power in knitting … Different from the workshops e.g. on the green, it has cast iron windows, large on the first floor, very small on the ground floor. (4)
