Full Description

11 flints were picked up in the Rectory garden, in an area where a 3ft deep trench had been dug. Excavation revealed a circular hut floor with hearth, flint finds (200 in all), sheep and ox bones within its limits. Two teeth of pig and one of dog identified. Since pottery and polished stone were lacking it was suggested to be of Mes period, but there were no definite Mes tool types, so more likely to be early Neo. Bone and soil samples were lost in the mail. A number of "hollows" (? hut sites) are visible in the paddock S of the garden. (1)
Now a private house, no finds have been made during gardening. The paddock shows no surface evidence of early occupation and the "hollows" could not be identified. No surface flints seen in churchyard, no information from residents of Glebe Farm. (2)
The feature could be interpreted as occupation of a tree throw. (3)
See L9241, L9242 and L9655 for further finds of flint implements.
