Full Description

During gravel digging at Hoveringham Gravels Ltd, 4 late BA weapons came to light near numerous oak piles in June 1966. No excavation has yet taken place. The piles found so far have been driven into the gravel through a layer of brushwood. Their tops survive to within c 3ft of the present surface and their length 5ft to 6ft. Many piles were destroyed before a record could be made. It appears however that at least the majority lay along a line c 1/4 mile long, possibly forming a causeway in marshy ground near a former river bed. No trace of any pottery. (1)
