Full Description

All the buildings in an area of c 1 acre have been demolished except for a few. The smithy was owned for many years by a farming and blacksmith family called Walker. They specialised in the early 1900s in making steerage seed drills and this business was transferred to larger premises in Bingham in c 1914 (premises now occupied by Melton Farmers). Due to the mass production of agricultural machinery the Walker Drill went out of business in 1919, however several of these drills are still in use locally and elsewhere (--/09/1966). (1)
