Full Description

Several small rectangular or subcircular features, one possible enclosure on a linear feature. Heavily pitted area. Small group of parallel linear features in adjoining field. (1) (2)
Site 4, currently under excavation, is an IA settlement comprising 3 or 4 separate enclosures. (3)
A ditched domestic enclosure and a small compound to the N. Within the enclosure were 6 hut circles, some 20 pits and other post holes. The pits were concentrated towards the centre of the enclosure and contained pottery, broken querns, fire-cracked stones, and, in a few cases, charcoal. Except for a few Ro sherds from the enclosure ditches, the pottery was of Ancaster-Breedon type scored ware and other middle IA undecorated vessels. About 50m to the E was another enclosure (D-shaped) containing scored IA pottery, but no features. (5) - See this ref for more details. (7)
Morph: 72.5.1 - 72.5.5, Group interpreted as Roman Settlement. (6)
See L8041 for Neo/BA finds, L8042 for adjacent cropmarks and excavation.
