A probable Ro road extends from SK 7946 towards Ad Pontem. Traces of the road have been observed at the following places. SK 794462 A stony line running WNW-ESE. 4 sherds came from the ploughed surface of the field - C2 samian rim, grey ware rim and calcite gritted sherd. SK 773483 A 20-40ft band of gravel running in a SE-NW direction over 4 fields. SK 767489 to SK 761495 Broad streak running across several fields. Slight suggestions of drainage ditches - running towards AD PONTEM. (1) (2) (3)
No positive evidence of a former road could be seen along the indicated line. There are a few pasture fields but the land is mainly arable, some of which is still under crop. (5)
(Late 1940s or early 1950s) - I hired a deep plough, and ploughed 22-24in deep. After a heavy downpour 2-3 days after ploughing ... I saw a washed stone road running across the length of the field, c 10-12ft wide (marked on map, at c SK 770 486). (7)
