Full Description

Circular double row of postholes on DC 010 and on EF 062 and EF 061 show as dark "?" patches probably in sugar beet. DC 010 is very good, shows also an irregular line in the distance of similar pits ? Henge ? (1)
Investigated on the ground by Newark Arch Committee. No finds or surface traces. (2)
2 concentric rings of posts/pits - inner c 56 large posts 70-73m diameter, outer discontiuous ring c 90-95m diameter. Distance between posts 4-8m. Possible entrances through inner ring NW 7.5m wide, S c 7m, NNE c 17m wide. (3) (4)
The cropmark is of a double circle of holes. The inner, c 73m in diameter, comprises some 62 marks but some fading is evident to the S. A definite break is visible close to the NE point and another hole set within the circle and closer to the SE side can be seen. No inner holes are apparent. This "orientation" approximates closely to that of Stonehenge. The outer circle, c 16m larger in diameter, is not so well marked and is best seen to the SE. Pickering's photos (taken --/07/1966) of a probable Ro road nearby show the recently laid gas pipe line running very close to and possibly clipping the S edge. No traces of a surrounding bank and ditch show either on the photos or on the ground and no tumuli are known in the vicinity. No finds from the site have been reported. Possibly a henge. (5)
Morph: 209.6.1 Neolithic henge. (6)
