Full Description

Consists of N aisle (C13 type), chancel and W tower. No fittings of interest. (no ref)
Basically C13 but almost rebuilt in the C19, i.e. restored in 1845, 1852 and more extensively (and dreadfully) in 1869 by Ewan Christian. N arcade of C13 type. (1)
Trench for waterpipe commenced along east end of chancel, exposing foundations of Victorian chancel, under which were three courses of uncut skerry in naturally shaped slabs (as main body of old-built church) - no sign of modern mortar … Victorian chancel sits exactly on these rough foundations. (2)
Dendro sampling in 1983 produced a felling date of c.1500.(4)
See L10964 for nearby excavations.
