15 BA urns and a square cist of greenstone slabs, all with cremations, were found in the working edge of a gravel pit near Coneygre Farm in 1968. Traces of a ditch were noticed on either side of the finds, suggesting it to be a BA barrow. Only 7 of the urns were preserved. Investigations were carried out by NCM and Miss Hazel Wheeler. (1)

In the spring of 1973 excavations at this site were completed under the direction of Miss Wheeler. No barrow ditch was found, despite extensive trenching on the edge of the cemetery area, and a detailed examination of the face of the gravel quarry, where any such ditch must have appeared. What had been mistaken for sections of barrow ditch in 1968 on excavation proved to be pits. 16 further middle BA urns were found, giving a total of 30 for the site, in addition to 5 more cremations in cists, and several unenclosed ones. Site now quarried away by Hoveringham Gravel Co. Indicated at above grid ref by Miss Wheeler. All retained material is now in NCM, not accessed as yet. (4)
It was not possible to determine the full extent of the cremation cemetery, but no cremations were found in the more western and southern area excavated (see L9575 for most SW cremation). In most cases some assessment of age was possible. 34 pots were found altogether, 31 containing cremations. The burials seem to have been deposited in a linear arrangement, all the excavated pots were upright. (5)
