Full Description

Part of the wall of a kiln discovered in the grounds of Flintham Hall, just below the present surface. Excavation revealed a rectangular structure 5.15m x 4.37m with 5 arched flues on two sides. Made of brick with some skerry stone facing, and fired with coal. Seven bricks were found in situ from the last firing - making bricks for the hall, late C17/early C18. It was then dismantled and filled with household rubbish. (1)
