Full Description

5 miles NE of Nottingham and 2.5 miles from Lowdham on the Cocker Beck is a simple mound known as the "Round Hill" (listed under Castle Mounts). (1)
C15 field name - Milne Wong. Tithe Award - Mill Field. Some ridge and furrow seems to avoid feature, other to be disturbed by it/overlain by it. Diameter 25m, 1.5m high. (2) Upstanding motte, standing 5ft high in arable, but itself unploughed. It is c 25-30m diameter, of slightly irregular shape. The NMR describes it as a motte, but there is no evidence of a surrounding bailey: it is also listed under Castle Mounds in VCH. (3)
Locals of Lambley call this site "Milling". (4)
The mound still survives but is now reduced in diameter to 18.0m, having been mutilated about most of its perimeter by a mechanical digger. The surrounding ditch no longer exists, and the field about is arable. The description of windmill mound seems most apt. (5)
Small grass covered mound in middle of arable field. (6)
See M17208 for alternative interpretation as a beacon.
