Full Description

Dovey's shop. The best known of the framework knitters' workshops in Calverton. It was used for hosiery manufacturing on hand frames by Messrs Allen Solly of Arnold up to 1956. Of brick, it has 2 storeys with long rows of windows on both floors. A photo of the interior of the shop when at work can be found in (2). (1)

Early hosiery factory, now a printing works, c.1830. Brick with gabled and hipped pantile roofs. Single ridge stack. 2 storeys, 5 bays. 2 builds. Single range. Windows are large glazing bar sashes. Openings to ground floor have segmental heads. South side has 5 casements on each floor. Rear has 3 casements. West gable has door and a casement. East gable has a casement on each floor. (NCC/js)
Built in the first years of the nineteenth century this brick building is an early example of a hosiery factory although it has recently been in use as a printing works. Hosiery was made in the factory on hand frames by Allen Solly of Arnold until 1944. The windows to both floors are very large to allow maximum light into the working area. (5)
