Full Description

Green glazed and other Med pottery was ploughed up on Boots land c 400yds W of the S end of the priory buildings. One source of the sherds is what appears to be a building straddling an old channel of Thurgarton Beck. This position, the presence of 2 round patches of lighter earth, possibly the casts of waterwheels, and of a filled-in timber-framed channel leading water to them, suggests that the site was a watermill. The structure seems to have undergone several phases of rebuilding, before it was destroyed and the site covered by a bank parallel with the stream. Excavations continuing. (1)
Reference to Priory Mills in Henry II's reign. There is a reference to Barail Mill in 1328. (2)
See M 1776 for DMV, M 1775 for Augustinian Priory
