Full Description

Almost a mile to the SE of Epperstone is the ruins of a paper mill, in the grounds of a private house. Owned by W Forster in the early C19, destroyed by fire in 1828 but rebuilt soon afterwards. The existing 2 storey structure, built across the stream, is mainly of brick, but incorporates some stone masonry. (1)

Ruinous mill nearby C18 mill house. (4)
This building, of stone and brick construction, shows the signs of much restoration at varying periods. No detail could be found to substantiate the C18 dating above. (5)
Paper mill. The attractive ruins of this watermill, now part of a stud farm, last operated in 1912. Probably built early C19, rebuilt 1828 after a fire. The tailrace arches are in stone but much of the remains are in brick. The centre third has no roof. Nearby is a converted building which housed a steam engine. The small stream was obviously too unreliable for sustained output. The large house on the site is unspoilt. (6)
Corn mill, then paper mill. Mid C18, burnt 1809 and rebuilt. (8)
Now converted to housing. The earliest reference to paper making is in 1730. In 1869 it was working machines of 44ft size and in 1888 working size 48ft with a weekly output of 8 tons. (9)
"Daucor Head Mill" shown here. (10)
