Full Description
Ivy House - 57 Main St. This is an old cottage with an extra room for a stocking factory attached. Originally held 8 looms and silk stockings were made until after WWI. The stocking room has long windows on both sides. The stocking factory was run by a Mr Craggs whose family came to Burton Joyce 150-200 years ago. His grandson (Mr Craggs) lives nearby. The stockings were taken to Morley's, Fletcher Gate. Building being renovated (07/12/ 1968). (1)
Late eighteenth century cottage in brick with slate roof. Mid nineteenth century wing on left hand side with pantile roof and twentieth century addition on right hand side. Some Yorkshire sliding sashes and modern door with overlight. (2)
