Full Description

The oldest feature … is the N door: Norman. The chancel [was] built in the mid C14. Big W tower, C13 below (see tower arch), Perp above. The arcades of the nave also Perp. Font … [is] Norman. (1)
Chancel … [of] 1356 … [by] Richard de Strelley. The chancel must have been completed before the nave was commenced. The small square W tower … was built during the reign of Queen Mary (1553-1558). (2)
Tree-ring analysis showed the belfry floor and bellframe are likely to be contemporary, with both structures dating to the mid C17. (3)

The subsurface survey of the churchyard discovered only two features. These were in close proximity to each other, with at least one being in-situ. The absence of any fallen or buried gravestones is an interesting discovery. The absence could either suggest that older gravestones have been removed, or that stone grave markers were not used of for all of the burials recorded in the parish records for the 18th and 19th centuries.
