Full Description
There was formerly a chapel at Gunthorpe, now converted into a blacksmith's shop (addition by Throsby). (1)
The chapel of ease at Gunthorpe was out of repair in 1607 and 1680; a century later it was used as a blacksmith's shop. (2)
The chapel at Gunthorpe is mentioned in the parish registers of Lowdham. The site in 1938 was occupied by a cottage with 2 roof rafters ornamented with Tudor roses, c.1450-1500. (4)
The present chapel (to the N) is recent. The site of the smithy was identified at above grid ref. The house opposite has old stonework in lower courses. (5)
See M 8269 for smithy.
