Full Description

The ancient church of S. Michael, Hoveringham, was cruciform, without side-aisles. It is doubtful if it originally had a tower. A brick one, however, with a lead spire, had at some time been erected. (One of) the only ancient objects now visible (is) the fine Norman tympanum. (1)
Tympanum early Norman: St Michael, two dragons and the Agnus Dei. On the lintel a strip of beasts interlace with St Peter. Font primitive Norman, but obviously not in its original state. (2)
See M8273 for cross, M17725 for C19 church.
