Site of chapel, considered to have been erected in C13. (1)

The chapel was in ruins in 1792. (2)

Kimberley, formerly a parish with church and rectory, was united with Greasley in 1448. No trace of old church extant, present church built 1847. (3)

Early broken narrow brick, 2 individual portions of unworked sandstone and a large fragment of marble, were found within the mound. This together with the layout of tracks and paths suggest it to be the site of the chapel. The mound is mutilated and unsurveyable. (4)

Excavations found no trace of church. Two inhumations laid out E-W and further bones found in course of housing development. In the W boundary bank, earthmoving exposed a wall made of large masonry blocks, some dressed, apparently running N-S, adjacent to the area of the burials. While there is no dating evidence for this wall, it is tempting to identify it with the E end of the church. (5)
