Full Description
Railway shown, from Babbington Colliery to wharf on the Nottingham canal at Cossall and on to the Erewash canal. (1)
Dismantled railway, MR Babbington branch. (2)
The collieries took early advantage of the opening of the Midland Railway's Erewash Valley section in 1847. The (modifed) line (of the branch line to Babbington - opened 1849) was to take a more direct route from the junction, crossing the old tramway. Connexion was made with the remainder of the private system through Babbington towards Cinderhill. That section of the old tramway crossing the main line to reach the Erewash canal continued to serve as a branch for many years. (3)
Grid ref is for junction with main line.
