Full Description

Church of St Mary Magdalene. A coursed stone building with a Welsh slate roof and having scant remains of a Norman church (NB List misprints as "Roman"). A zig-zag stone in the W wall, is Norman according to Pevsner. The N arcade is of 1180, the S arcade is early C13, and the tower and spire is of 1391. It was restored in 1868. (1) (2)
Remains of part of a Norman arch [are] now built into the W wall of the S aisle. The two E bays of the N arcade … date from 1170-80. The additional bay to the W, together with the S arcade were added towards the middle of the 13th century. The tower … was built soon after 1391 for John de Sutton. The chancel was rebuilt in 1854.
