Full Description
Chapel Field, to the E of Wansley Hall. (1)
The church at Wandesley (Wansley) mentioned in DB seems to have come down as a private chapel of the Wandesleys served by the priory of Felley. (2)
The field known as Chapel Field is under grass. Nothing of significance was seen. The farmer knew of no finds having been made in the field in ploughing but stated that open-cast coal mining engineers had had rigorous instructions not to excavate the field. On a gable of Wansley Hall (M2551) is a stone carving probably of religious significance but there is no evidence of any association with this church/chapel. (3)
See 02551 for Wansley Hall.
