Full Description

Building shown inside enclosure, apparently a moat. (1)
The old manor house at Lambley (associates with Cromwell family) has passed almost beyond recognition. A portion of the old foundation walls is incorporated in the rectory, which now stands upon the site. Indications of the moat may still be seen in the rectory grounds. (2)
A depression immediately S of the Rectory and extending eastwards into the adjacent field, could be the moat. (3)
An "L" shaped depression in the N angle of the garden may be the reported "traces of a moat", but in its present condition the feature is non-classifiable. S of the Rectory 2 new houses are being built. (4)
The Victorian rectory was demolished in 1974 and the moat filled in to make way for a housing development. In 1585 the "Rectorye … with the Mote" was leased for 9 years by the Rev John Lunde (ie not the same as Cromwell's manor house). (5)
Large building shown (but no moat). (6)
See L8274 for pond, M11656 for Cromwells' moated manor house, M17217 for C18/19 rectory.
