Full Description

Comprises chancel, nave, S aisle, N porch and W tower. The N doorway and much of the N side is Norman, the S aisle is early C13. The tower is C15 supported on EE corbels. The chancel was rebuilt in C13. (3)
A small Norman work of the 12th century. The existence of [a church] is implied by the Domesday note 'there is a priest'. [The] south aisle [has] a type of plate tracery … which gives a date of 1220. In the main [the tower] is of the 15th century. The north porch was constructed in the 15th century. (4)
W tower [with] Perp bell openings. Norman masonry on the N side. The S door Norman of the plainest. Norman fragments also on the S side of the chancel. The arcade C13. C14 fragment of stained glass. North porch early C16. (5)
Churchyard. Here are the graves of the apprentices from the Robinsons' mills. (6)
At least 3 inhumations found, the rest of the human remains from the site were highly disturbed. There was evidence of a floor level uncovered during the excavation of the french drain, this did not correspond with the excavation of the interior but this may have been due to the removal of any earlier flooring due to the construction of the organ block. (7)
The belfry contained a ring of 4 bells with wooden headstocks, gear and plain bearings hung in a long headed wooden frame without centre posts. The bellframe consists of a sill, long head and braces from sill to head and would be classified as Characteristic Group 6-6A truss type (Elphic Z). The frame has no end posts or perpendicular struts. There are 7 trusses making up the bellframe, the braces are morticed into both head and sill and dowel pegged. First mentioned in 1552AD (8)
