Full Description

The mill is a very small structure built on to the side of the former miller's house. It is now disused, but still contains the wheel and much of its machinery. The mill is largely built of brick, but substantial sections of stone in its structure suggest that it incorporates remains of a much earlier building. (1)
A C18 watermill, wheel (probably C19) and machinery in situ, but disused. 2 pairs of stones driven, one pair peaks, others burrs. Mill is 3 storey brick and stone. Roof is purlin and rafter with ridge board, pantiles. Lean to wheel house to one side and cottage on other. (3)
Shown on Sanderson, but not on Chapman. (5) (6)
Mill and attached house and bridge. Early C18, with C19 and C20 alterations. (7)
It had an enclosed waterwheel still in existence in 1965. It has been both a paper mill and a corn mill. It ceased working as a corn mill in 1949. The earliest reference found is 1654 but the present building is probably C18 although a document in 1801 is a mortgage for William Wilkins, papermaker, to erect a paper mill in Halam. In 1885 a sawmill is listed. A diesel engine was installed in 1929. (8)
