Full Description

Pear-shaped gun emplacement. This was erected to command the E side of the river crossing and could also enfilade the road at the N side of the river. (1)
This Civil War earthwork remains as a horse-shoe shaped, grassed over, flat topped mound, 1.7m high. Ploughing up to the base of the mound has removed all but the slightest traces of an outer ditch. (2)
This feature is partly covered by a gravel stock pile. Slopes have been retained as presumably they will be in evidence when the gravel is removed. (3)
No piles of gravel now cover the earthwork which, in spite of its present situation, has survived fairly well, apart from collecting a few heavy tyre marks. (4)
Not visible, but may be buried under pebble gravels which are stored in this area by Tarmac Roadstone Ltd. C17 Civil War. (5)
For full description and plan see (7).
Pear shaped earthwork. (8)
Was SAM 22.
