Full Description

Ditch complex, parts of rectangular enclosures close to river. One large rectangular enclosure ? double ditched. (1)
A multiplicity of features (not plotted on OS map), quite clear. Of those which have a regular shape can be seen a sub-triangular enclosure with entrance and a much larger double ditched rectangular enclosure (2 sides - could be intersecting trackways). (2)
All cropmarks are now under low cereal, nothing to be seen of enclosures, only normal field debris. The area has an open aspect but is close to Trent, occupation probably restricted to summer and autumn only. (3)
Morph: 195.4.1 settlement. (4)
An early N-S aligned ditch … truncated by an E-W aligned ditch. The secondary fill contained late C1 / EC2 pottery fragments. The primary fill [sic] was cut by a later ditch on the same alignment, not excavated. The fill had been truncated by a N-S aligned feature which also remained unexcavated. (5)
A complex arrangement of linear, curvilinear and discreet anomalies of probable archaeological significance were detected, many of which correspond to cropmarks. … Many of these anomalies appear to be produced by the magnetically enhanced fills of archaeological archaeological features. The morphological characteristics of many of these features suggests that they are the product of IA and RB activity. Some anomalies form enclosures, possibly with associated stock management features, others may result from domestic occupation, but the latter interpretation is more equivocal. … A minimum of three phases of activity. (6)
See L8396 for Ro pottery, 8397-8 for further cropmarks.
