Full Description
An eroded fragment of the defences survives in a a pasture field between the 2 roads linking Farndon with the Fosse Way. Here shown on Clamp's plan was an angle bastion facing E, with 2 faces parallel to the NE and SE sides of the curtain, and 2 short flanks facing NW and SW. The 2 faces of the bastion, that facing SE being 60ft long, the SW flank 15ft long, and a stretch of the curtain running SW for 170ft, survive as a slight terrace, about 2ft high, with traces of a ditch, clearer on the NE face. The line of the circumvallation joined the NE face 70ft NW of the point of the bastion. (1)
Fragmentary remains of the angle bastion of the Farndon defences exist at SK 7711 5167 coupled with a slight adjacent rampart (line of circumvallation). The works have been mutilated and spread by farming activity and cattle, achieving now a max height of 0.7m only. Now under rough pasture. (2)
See M8401for circumvallation.
