Full Description

Site of Muskham Grange - 2 large structures, the smaller one with a conservatory. (1) Late C18, with C17 service wing. Was listed, grade II. (See LB description on OS card, Parish File.) (2)
The oldest part of North Muskham Grange, which stood at the N end of the village, was possibly C16 in date, although the house was considerably altered in the C18. In the 1770s the Newark banker Joseph Pocklington added an anteroom, library and drawing room….. (William Rastall) Dickinson lived at North Muskham from 1789 to 1808, during which time he virtually rebuilt the house, added two new wings with offices, and planted and extensive pleasure ground. In the C20 the Edge family of Strelley Hall acquired the house and it was eventually converted into flats. A substantial part of the grounds was requisitioned for the widening of the A1 road and this led to permission being granted to demolish the house in 1963, in spite of the opposition by the Thoroton Society.
