Full Description
Beam slots associated with stone- and Cistercian ware found during excavation N of Anglo-Saxon cemetery, at Mount Pleasant. Excavator suggested they were a revetment for part of the Civil War defences of Newark (SK 7926 5343). (1) (2)
Excavation at Victoria Street - large ditch cut through P Med ploughsoil. Orientated NE/SW, flat bottomed, 3m wide, 1.6m deep (SK 7928 5340). Dug and filled in within C17. Interpreted as SE side of Millgate Hornwork, part of town defences of Civil War, slighted 1646. Postulated by RCHM some 25m to the NW. (3) (4)
