Full Description

Earthwork, partially destroyed by erosion. The form of consruction of M3610 and the topographical situation of both in relation to the main siegeworks of Newark, suggest them to be minor defence works of the Civil War. (1)
This was a royalist work facing N. (2)
Earthwork at Crankley Point lies at the NE extremity of the Island. The work has been much damaged by gravel workings nearby, now disused. OS 25in shows 2 bastions pointing NE and NW, linked by 2 parallel banks 15ft apart, 160ft long, running approx E-W parallel with with the NW branch of the River Trent. The S bank, with a ditch to the S and a centrally placed ramp and entrance, is still traceable over its entire length, the N bank survives intermittently without trace of any ditch, but of the bastions only parts of the flanks survive. (3)
No change. (4)
Morph: 201.3.1 ditch, 201.5.1 pit. (7)
Earthwork. (8)
See M3610 for nearby earthwork, M3608 for Colonel Grey's Sconce.
