Full Description

Site of Gray's Fort, a Parliamentarian earthwork during the Civil War siege of Newark. A diamond shaped work with angle bastions to front and rear. Destroyed by quarrying. (1)
The indicated site falls in a private garden; there are no visible remains of the earthwork. The topographical situation, atop Beacon Hill, is outstanding. (2)
