Full Description

A rectangular site in a grass field - ditch now silted up, probably originally filled by a spring nearby. Part of the ditch has been widened on N side to form a pond. Stands on or near the site of Col Theodore Gray's HQ in 1645 ... but this has disappeared and the moated site shows no signs of having been adapted in connection with the work. (1)
A well preserved moat with a max depth of 2.0m and a small, connected fishpond. There is no surface evidence of a building on the island, access to which is by the original causeway, now gravelled over. (2)
New dam built 2 years ago and springs cleared to refill moat to form a bird sanctuary. Slight causeway 4m wide, and 5m above water level links mainland with central platform from the E. Level central platform with slight traces of rectangular features in S half of enclosed area. (3)
Morph: 206.2.1 moat. (4)
Moat. (5)
