Full Description
The site of Flawford Farm may have Med origins. C19 maps show a moat encircling the house. The designation of Flawford as "extra parochial" on the early C19 maps gives a clue to its history, as it formed an outlying farm (or grange) held by the Order of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem (the Knights Templar) whose preceptory lay at Eagle, just north of Swinderby. Accounts of 1316 show rents received from lands at Flawford, and in 1338 record "one messuage and one carucate of land in Ffauflour". (1)
Here are some grounds on the N part of this lordship, called the Manor of Flaufore, which heretofore was the Knight's Templar's, and after the Hospitalers of St John's of Jerusalem. (4)
