Full Description

Defences at Balderton are now mostly destroyed. The defences surrounded the village, a long narrow one, forming an almost rectangular enclosure approx 1000yds by 400yds. As shown by Clampe, the N side was of bastion trace and the S had a series of redans; the E side was direct and unflanked, and on the W was a large demi-bastion flanking the lane leading W. (1)
There are no surface remains of Balderton defences. The postulated line and remains as outlined in (1) are now under modern development. (2)
See (1) for details, map. Grid ref general.
