Full Description
Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. (1)
Wesleyan Methodist Chapel on the site is first shown on historic mapping in 1885, but a date stone suggests it was first built in 1826. It is shown as a much smaller structure on the 1885 map, and was likely rebuilt in the later 19th century. (2)
The combined magnetometer, earth resistance and GPR survey [of the site] at Crococolana Roman Town revealed a small number of areas of possible brick or stone remains. The remains may relate to fragmented structural remains of buildings/walls of the Roman town, however the site’s adjacency to the Methodist church means that some of the responses may be a result of early Methodist graves or burials. The small scale of the site makes further interpretation of the features difficult, and has led to the classification of many anomalies as being of unknown origin. (2)
