Site of St Edwin's Chapel. (1)
Cross on site (now gone). (2)
Site of the chantry and hermitage of St Edwin was identified in 1911 by the vicar of Edwinstowe and W Stevenson. A cairn of some of the original building blocks was made and surmounted by a metal cross. The earliest record is from 1201 when King John paid the hermit of Clipstone a stipend of 40 shillings for his services, payments by succeeding Kings are recorded to 1548. The chapel is shown on maps of 1610 and 1630. (3)
