Full Description

The original portion of (chapel) wall as shown exists no longer. It has been knocked down by cattle and all that is visible on the ground at the present time is a low mound. (2)
Grass covered foundations only survive, forming the N wall with parts of the E and W ends. (3)
The chapel site was excavated during 1974. The building which was orientated E-W, consisted of a nave 9m x 6m and a rectangular E chancel 6.5m x 5m, with walls almost 1m thick and a roof of thin limestone slabs. The building technique did not match the quality of the stone blocks, suggesting an earlier building being the source for materials. Two base sherds of late C13 or early C14 were found in the walls. From the C18, the chapel became a source for building materials. (4)
NB no documentary references to a chapel have been found.
See L8566 - Ro finds, L8567 - BA pottery, L8568 - cropmarks.
See M4000 for barn, M8943 for well house.
