Full Description

Mill, pre 1812. Stone, 2 floors, 1 wheel. Remaining portion used now as office. Became absorbed into Barringer, Wallis and Manners and later Metal Box. Originally mustard grinding. (1)
Named "Rock Valley Mill". (2)
There were at least two water powered sites in Rock Valley in the late C18, each having 20ft diameter waterwheels. One at least was standing in 1812 when it was burnt down - rebuilt in 1813. It had various uses, and was a mustard mill by 1839. By 1844 the site included a quarry, sawmill, colour mill, vinegar works, wood turning mill, dyehouse, tannery, ropewalk and the mustard mill. A fire in 1873 destroyed all but the mustard mill. The mill had been converted to a tin shop by 1888. The surviving building was a four storey building including basement with an external wheel which is no longer there. It is stone and not readily accessible. (3)
Lies in Rock Valley. Ground mustard using water power from the River Maun. (5)
The only remaining part of the mill is the south wall which abuts a modern factory building. It is the gable end of a two storey building, of stone, with chimney and various openings. (6)
See M18238 for C20 factory building.
