Full Description

Stocking frame knitter's house. It has 2 floors. The building is entirely of sandstone, except for parts of adjoining walls etc. The main building, containing the old shop, knitter's room, 2 bedrooms, kitchen and living room, faces onto the main road while behind this around a small yard is an outhouse of stone which was the washhouse. There is also a well in the yard but this is covered over. The whole is enclosed within a stone wall and there is no rear entrance. House in very poor condition, demolition for road widening pending 23/07/1965. Reputed to be one of the oldest knitter's cottages in the county, possibly dating back to the end of the C17. (1)
