Full Description

Fireworks factory, now demolished. Factories covered an acre or 2. Consisted of a large building of brick which was used as a magazine and about 7 wood huts where fireworks were made. Factory closed over 50 years ago. Only remains now present are a little of the brick magazine and one of the huts which is in a garden at 64 Rufford Road. The works themselves were owned by Pinders, 60 years ago. Production ceased about 1900. The buildings were then used as store houses and fell into a state of decay, being enclosed by an orchard and greenhouses. One of the huts was converted into a bungalow. Each hut had a tarpaulin roof and was characterised by a metal spike on the top (14/07/1964). (1)
