Full Description

Watermill, still working. Brick built, in good condition but in danger of demolition for road widening. 3 floors, mill house attached. Iron wheel, iron pit and wallower. Iron with wood teeth on spur stone and crown. (04/07/1963). (1)
Opposite [the Hop Pole Hotel] … a water mill in complete working order with an iron breast wheel. (2)
Corn mill. It is still worked for a few days each year. (3)
Watermill. Mid and late C18. (4)
The mill building is 3 storeys, brick and pantile with the miller's house attached. The present waterwheel, metal, was installed in 1862 replacing an earlier, mainly wooden one. It is enclosed with the bypass sluice running by the side of the wheel. The wheel is 14ft 2in diameter by 7ft 8in wide, breastshot. (see source for more details). Milling ceased in 1980 and the mill is retained in working order by the Mettam family. (5)
