Full Description

Mainly C15 but with fine late C13 S arcade of wide arches on pillars with clusterd shafts, foliated capitals. C14 N arcade, C15 windows and nave clerestorey. C14 and C15 W tower. N chapel with clustered shafts to arcade. 3 finely carved monuments of 1693, 1698 and 1748. Fragments of late Med glass in N aisle. C19 S porch. (1)
N chancel chapel, chancel arch and the N arcade are C13. (2)
Low Marnham Church occupies an elevated site. Stone lumps seen in the trench section close to the N side of the churchyard were suspected to be within a substantial dumped deposit interpreted as an artificial mound. The church may have been built on this apparently contemporary mound but there is no evidence that the site was not naturally on higher ground. (3)
